Crossy Road Developer Working on Unique New Pac-Man Game

Hipster Whale, the team behind Crossy Road, has been tasked with the mission to create a new Pac-Man game in celebration of the little yellow fellow’s 35th anniversary. This has resulted in Pac-Mac 256, a free-to-play title heading to iOS this Summer based on the infamous ‘level 256’ glitch from the original game.

The glitch, once the player has entered map 256, renders half of the screen useless in the form of a garbled mess. This is caused by a programming glitch due to the level counter maxing out at 255.

From what we can see in the trailer, the gameplay seems to take several cues from the developer’s previous project, Crossy Road’ with an infinitely stretching map ahead of Pac-Man and the inabillity to move backwards too far as ‘The Glitch’ chases closely behind.

We’ll be getting Pac-Man 256 this summer on iOS. It’s likely that Android users will eventually get their hands on it but currently, we’re unsure.
