Matthew Vaughn Confirms Man of Steel 2 Talks

Kingsman: The Golden Circle director Matthew Vaughn has confirmed that he has held talks with Warner Bros. to helm Man of Steel 2.

Despite Superman being an integral part of the DC Extended Universe, a second stand-alone movie has been slow in coming. Henry Cavill’s Last Son of krypton introduced moviegoers to the DCEU with the divisive Man of Steel before going on to appear alongside the Dark Knight in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. At the end of that film, Superman appear to bite the big one but, with Justice League due this year, it would appear Superman is still an integral part of that universe. Which makes the continued absence of a direct sequel a little perplexing – the original movie grossed $668 million worldwide and despite this, it was a noticeable absentee from Warner Bros. slate of upcoming DCEU movies.

Now, it seems that progress is being made. In an interview with Hey U Guys to promote this month’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Vaughn talked about future projects he could work on, which includes Kingsman 3. He also revealed Superman is still in his sights due to his admiration for the character:

“I am planning another Kingman, I’ve written the treatment and some of the scenes…I don’t know what I’m going to do next but I have had chats about Superman, I love Superman.”

While a Superman sequel probably isn’t a high priority for Warner Bros. it’s interesting that they appear to be fielding pitches from fan-boy directors who have an undeniable passion for the project – it’s similar to Joss Whedon directing Batgirl, a movie that didn’t exist until he expressed an interest in the project. Here’s hoping the right pitch comes along to make the Man of Steel swore once again.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle is due in cinemas September 20th, 2017.
