First, he departed the director’s chair and now, if rumours are to be believed, he’s about to depart the DCEU altogether – could Ben Affleck be about to quit the role of Batman?

The word circulating is that, in keeping with the consolatory tone of his statement upon leaving the director’s chair, Ben Affleck could be looking for a way out of The Batman movie, which will now be directed by Dawn of the Planet of the Apes helmer Matt Reeves.

The rumour comes from Collider's John Campea, who appeared on the Collider Talk podcast last night to say the following:

“Ben Affleck, make no mistake, he wants out. He doesn’t want to be Batman anymore.”

The Playlist added that Campea’s sources have told him that Affleck is in active discussions with Warner Bros. to remove himself from his DCEU deal which includes The Batman movie tentatively scheduled for 2019.

However, if a deal cannot be reached in time, this solo outing will be the last appearance Affleck makes as the character. However, despite Campea having the rumour verified by three separate sources, he warned listeners to the Collider Podcast to take the news with a pinch of salt.

So, feel free to speculate upon the fate of Ben Affleck as the Batman, but our gut feeling is that there may be trouble ahead for The Batman and the DCEU.
