Star Wars: The Old Republic Now Live With Knights Of The Fallen Update For Subscribers

BioWare's 'back to our roots' expansion for Star Wars: The Old Republic is out with lightsabers swooshing as Knights of the Fallen Empire begins its week of early access for subscribers to the free-to-play MMORPG.

If you're not in that camp then there's still plenty to get adjusted to as the studio has released Update 4.0 which dramatically alters the game. NPC companions can now be told to fulfil a Damage, Tank or Healer role - instead of being fixed, for example. Level Syncing also means high level characters are 'levelled down' while on lower level worlds, but they still retain all their abilities and passives.

Heroic group missions have been overhauled to make them doable by two players at the least, and they can now only be repeated weekly. Another big change is to the missions themselves as they're now broken into categories with 'core story missions' given priority. Other missions which don't involve the central plot are labelled as exploration missions and are 'disabled by default'.

There are plenty of big changes elsewhere throughout Star Wars: The Old Republic which you can read all about thanks to the huge Update 4.0 changelog now available.

Star Wars: The Old Republic - Knights of the Fallen Empire releases for everyone October 27th.
