Delving deep into the DC treasure chest, Warner Bros. are rumoured to be adapting a live action version of the Superman as a Russian graphic novel, Red Son.

Den of Geek is now reporting that Warner Bros. is developing a live-action Superman: Red Son movie. Following an exchange between Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Voight-Roberts and acclaimed comic writer Mark Millar (Kick Ass) about the potential for the film, Speaking to Millar about the proposed project: “Is this something they’re genuinely planning? I have no idea. I’ve got pals at Warner Bros but never discussed it with them. I think they’re just going through their back catalogue of big books and hoping to lure in good directors as opposed to any particular interest in developing Red Son. There’s always 50 conversations for every comic book movie that gets made and as far as I know this is something that is very much just at conversation stage.”

Written in 2003 by Millar for DC’s Elseworlds imprint, the story imagines a Kal-El who landed in the USSR rather the USA – so it’s clearly looking to branch out the existing universe (a sort of Crisis on Infinite Earths you might say) or as Voight-Roberts says, it could be the most punk rock thing the DCEU could do.
