Nintendo Switch's Paid Online Services In 2018 & Pricing
Right now the online multiplayer for Nintendo Switch is entirely free to enjoy but in 2018 Nintendo will be turning on their paid services with various subscriptions.
Once you sign in to your Nintendo Account then applicable games for co-op and competitive multiplayer can be enjoyed online, but in 2018 there will be a pay wall introduced ending the free ride.
Some titles are expected to offer free multiplayer but "most games will require a paid online service subscription from Nintendo in order to play online."
"This paid service lets Nintendo Switch owners enjoy online multiplayer gaming as well as a dedicated smartphone app that connects to your Nintendo Switch system and helps you connect with friends for online play sessions."
This smart app is Nintendo's idea to keep Switch gamers connected to their friends and to schedule online play sessions. A free and limited version of the Switch smart app will be available in summer 2017.

Aside from online multiplayer, online lobby and voice chat, the other big featured offered with Nintendo Switch's exclusive online paid services are the selection of classic Nintendo games. At launch these will include NES titles with Super NES games "under consideration" by Nintendo.
Nintendo has since announced that having an active subscription will grant you permanent access to these classic titles with added online play. As long as your subscription remains active then you can play any in the library as much as you want. Originally this was not the case.
