Extreme Thrills in First Trailer for Point Break
Trying to win over fans of the Kathryn Bigelow-directed original starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze original with men diving out of planes for cash, the first trailer for Point Break is young, dumb and full of combustion.
As in the original, Point Break centers on a novice FBI agent named Johnny Utah, who goes undercover with a group of rebellious thrill-seekers led by the charismatic Bodhi, to investigate a series of daring crimes pulled off by people with experience in extreme athletics.
While the original focused on the surf scene, the remake broadens the extreme sports remit to include wingsuit flying, snowboarding, free rock-climbing, motorcycling, surfing and Mexican cat juggling (maybe not the last one…)
And as the trailer shows, it’s also expanded the geography and traversed beyond the originals Southern California setting.
Point Break stars Édgar Ramírez as Bodhi and Luke Bracey as Johnny Utah, along with Ray Winstone, Teresa Palmer and Delroy Lindo.
Ericson Core directs from a screenplay by Kurt Wimmer. It hits theaters on Christmas Day with a wide release.
