Wonder Woman Sequel Reportedly Set in Contemporary Times

When a follow up to Wonder Woman gets a greenlight – and with it’s opening weekend box office of $100.5m (£78.09m) in the US/Canada this weekend, it’s on course to get the go ahead – the film will reportedly have a contemporary setting.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, director Patty Jenkins is prepared to helm a follow up film that takes Gal Gadot's Diana Prince to modern day – with both direct and star contractually committed to making another movie.

Speaking about returning to paradise island, Jenkins said:

“What I never want to do is start phoning it in and making things just to show that I can keep my foot in the door and do big movies," says Jenkins, scraping the last bits of gunk from the bottom of her soup bowl. "I don't care about that at all. I just want to make great movies. And that could come from any direction. It might be a $10 million movie or it might be $200 million movie."

Elsewhere, Jenkins talks about walking away from Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World, which, if she had taken the ‘troubled’ project on, she felt it would have been ‘a big disservice to women. If I take this knowing it's going to be trouble and then it looks like it was me, that's going to be a problem. If they do it with a man, it will just be yet another mistake that the studio made. But with me, it's going to look like I dropped the ball, and it's going to send a very bad message.' So I've been very careful about what I take for that reason’.
