The 2014 revival of PC classic series Thief was a mixed bag of stolen baubles, but according to a production company a new Thief sequel is in the works.

A movie adaptation of the Thief franchise is currently with the Hollywood types and a new game from Square Enix will be accompanying it when it arrives at cinemas, if the leak from Straight Up Films is to be believed.

"Widely considered to be one of the greatest games ever created, a fifth sequel is currently in development to be released in step with this motion picture adaptation," blogged the production company. "Steeped in the steam-punk world created by the video game, the film will tell a new chapter in the storied world of the series’ hero."

It would be the fifth entry in the series but could carry the title Thief 2 should it be a direct sequel to 2014's Thief from Eidos Montreal.

Thief 5 is most likely in development for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
