Matthew Vaughn Attached to Direct I Am Pilgrim

He may be busy working on the sequel to Kingsman: The Secret Service – which will likely go before cameras next year – but that hasn’t stopped Matthew Vaughn looking to get his spy on elsewhere.

He’s lined up to direct and produce an adaptation of Terry Haynes’ novel I Am Pilgrim for MGM.

Haynes is a name familiar to moviegoers; having written The Road Warrior, Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome, Dead Calm and Payback, but I Am Pilgrim was his first stab at novel writing, with a sequel to the international bestseller, already in the works.

I Am Pilgrim follows the adopted son of a rich American family who used to lead a covert operations unit for US intelligence. Enjoying himself in anonymous retirement, he’s called back to work on an unusual investigation, one that leads him to uncover a nefarious terrorist plot that threatens all of the States. Soon he’s in a race against time to stop the villain.

You would think MGM would be happy with just one spy franchise, what with James Bond under their purview, but they’ll be hoping I Am Pilgrim gives 007 a run for his money.
