Live-Action Judge Dredd TV Series In Development

Judge Dredd is back! I repeat Judge Dredd is back! While 2012’s Dredd didn’t set the box office alight, it certainly stoked a fire under long-time fans of Mega City One’s ultimate law keeper. However, there wasn’t much enthusiasm from studios despite the support of writer Alex Garland and Dredd himself Karl Urban. A sequel looked like it had been executed.

But now – and we must stress that this isn’t an exact continuation of the movie – a live-action TV show is in the works from some of the team behind the 2012 movie. Rebellion bosses and producers Jason and Chris Kingsley, along with IM Global's Stuart Ford are backing this new small screen outing titled Judge Dredd: Mega City One, which will retain the hard-edged satirical feel first envisioned by creators John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra for 2000AD.

"This is one of those seminal sci-fi properties that seems to only become and more relevant with age," IM Global Television boss Mark Stern tells Entertainment Weekly. "Not only is it a rich world with biting social commentary, but it’s also fun as hell! As a fan of the comics and both films, it’s a dream come true to be able to work with Jason and Chris in adapting this for television."

"We’re very excited to be beginning the journey to get more of Judge Dredd’s Mega-City One on the television screen,” says the Kingsleys. "Thanks to the legions of fans who have kept up pressure on social media, and a lot of background work and enthusiasm, we aim to make a big budget production that w ill satisfy both our vast comics audience and the even greater general screen-watching public."

While there isn’t a network on board just yet, we think they’ll be some interest…
