Konami Announces Metal Gear Survive, Multiplayer Co-op Fighting 'Biological Threats' (Zombies)

The very first post-Hideo Kojima Metal Gear has been announced by Konami, and it's called Metal gear Survive. It's a direct sequel to MGSV: Ground Zeroes in fact.

The odd thing about it is that it's not following the story that leads into big brother Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. No, instead Survive spotlights members of Mother Base who actually survive the attack... and get sucked into a wormhole's alternate dimension.

Zombies. That's what this appears to come down to. From the announcement trailer it would seem parts of Mother Base also got sucked through the wormhole and dumped alongside the soldiers now fighting off weird zombie-like crystal-infused abominations.

"Metal Gear Survive will offer a fresh take on the series’ famed stealth elements,” said Konami European president, Tomotada Tashiro, “but within a unique co-op setting that is designed for a truly engrossing multiplayer experience.”

Metal Gear Survive is not meant to be played as a single-player experience but as a co-op stealth action game, and supports up to four players. It is unclear whether any of Metal Gear's more prominent characters will actually be part of the spin-off.

Let us hope the soldiers fighting 'biological threats' to survive aren't symbolic of Metal Gear fans having to futilely push back Konami's ravenous zombie horde of new titles within the IP universe, now sadly missing its creator Hideo Kojima.

Metal Gear Survive releases on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in 2017.
