Star Trek 4: Zoe Saldana on the Future of the Franchise

After Star Trek Beyond posted less than stellar returns at the box office, the future of the Kelvin timeline seems to be less than assured, even though a fourth instalment has already been greenlit by Paramount.

The films plot was rumoured to see the return of Chris Hemsworth as Kirk’s father, who was last seen sacrificing himself for the good of his crew, and his recently born son, in 2009’s Star Trek, with Simon Pegg already working on the script.

Even though uncertainly surrounds the project, cast member Zoe Saldana said she’s more than happy to keep going where no man has gone before.

She told IGN that she’s confident that they’ll be another instalment: “I hope there is, I really hope there is. It’d be crazy to limit the longevity of a show that has had a 50 year life and on to stop just because they had a bad box office turnout, especially with people talking about how amazing this one was and I would love… I would always come back. To get an opportunity to be with all my friends until we’re 50-60, I would be so happy.”

Fans and critics certainly seemed to like Star Trek Beyond and, as Chris Hemsworth teased, he’s heard an ‘amazing pitch’ for the fourth instalment; so, it seems mad to think that it could be doubtful.

Here’s hoping we get to see the crew of the Enterprise head out on another voyage.
