Fans of rodents with a penchant for chart topping hits rejoice as Alvin, Simon and Theodore return in Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip.

This time around the be-squeaked monogrammed jumper wearing munks head out on the titular road trip after a series of misunderstandings lead them to believe that Dave (Scientology's Jason Lee) is about to propose to his girlfriend in the big apple and unceremoniously dump the munks.

Can the Chipmunks make it to New York, stop the proposal and keep Dave in their lives? Will they learn a valuable life lesson all while singing sped up ear splitting versions of your favourite songs? How does Uptown Munk grab you?

What's more startling is that combined, the three previous movies, which started with 2007’s Alvin and the Chipmunks, have grossed over $560 million domestically and $1.1 billion worldwide, although the last movie grossed $100 million less in North America than the previous two movies.

Scripted by Mrs. Doubtfire screenwriter Randi Mayem Singer and directed by Walt Becker, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip stars Jason Lee (Mallrats) as Dave Seville and will again feature the voices of Justin Long (Drag Me To Hell), Matthew Gray Gubler (Criminal Minds) and Jesse McCartney (Army Wives) as the headlining chipmunks.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip hits the big screen on December 23.
