Report: No New Battlefield For "Couple Of Years"
Electronic Arts CFO Blake Jorgensen has revealed they won't be introducing a new Battlefield entry next year as instead they'll focus on Star Wars Battlefront 2.
Star Wars will be their big shooter franchise for 2017 with Battlefield 1 being given at least another year in the spotlight, which is certainly earned as fans are enjoying the alternative history of the Great War DICE is offering.
The Battlefront sequel meanwhile is said to be "much bigger" and "much more exciting" than the reboot from Battlefield developer DICE. They want to overcome the criticism of the first new Battlefront which was harshly rebuked for not having any single-player campaign nor any space-based battles. DLC would later add some degree of space combat but it was otherwise passed over.
"It's a beautiful game, people loved it. I think if there was criticism they just wanted more. And so we're taking that criticism to heart as we build the next game and trying to address any of the issues that they had," said Jorgensen.
DICE will also be able to leverage more content from the recent theatrical return of Star Wars with The Force Awakens. "Next year we'll have the opportunity to leverage more of that content from the new movies and we think that'll make the opportunity much larger."
"There seems to be no waning in the excitement around the Star Wars world," he continued. "We've got another movie coming up obviously in a few weeks and people are very excited about it, and so we're looking forward to bringing to the table next year a much bigger, much more exciting Battlefront for consumers."
EA knows all about the popularity of Star Wars having enjoyed the big success of the RPG Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and The Old Republic MMO from BioWare. Star Wars Battlefront 2 is yet to be officially confirmed but is reportedly due in late 2017.
