Pacific Rim 2 Starts Filming, Title Confirmed

Pacific Rim 2 has begun filming and, thanks to a post by star John Boyega, we now know exactly what it’s called.

Ever since pre-production began – where original director Guillermo del Toro stepped back to co-writer/producer and was replaced by Stephen S. DeKnight – and the casting announcements of Boyega and Scott Eastwood were made, Pacific Rim's sequel has sometimes been referred to as Pacific Rim: Maelstrom.

Well now we know that it’s official title will be…Pacific Rim: Maelstrom.

Oh, that was a bit anticlimactic…er…nevermind I’m sure the film will be anything but.

Boyega posted the above of his script cover as production kicked off on the movie.

Story details are thin on the ground although it’s a given that giant, piloted robots known as Jaegers will battle massive creatures from another dimension called Kaiju and that Boyega is the son of the late Stacker Pentecost, as played by Idris Elba in the first film.

Co-staring Cailee Spaeny, Jing Tian, Levi Meaden and Ivanna Sakhno with a script that has seen work from del Toro, Derek Connolly and Emily Carmichael, among others, Pacific Rim: Maelstrom is set for release on 23 February, 2018.
