Song Of The Deep, the first game from the partnership of GameTrust (GameStop's new publishing company) and Insomniac Games (Ratchet & Clank, Sunset Overdrive) is releasing in just two days. Luckily for us, the reviews are starting to come in now!

So, what's it about? The game tells a heartfelt story of a young girl who builds a rickety submarine in an effort to take to the underwater world and find her father who's become lost at sea while partaking in a fishing expedition.

Here's what the critics are saying:

USgamer - 90 out of 100 - "Its map is impressively large, and it packs many inventive puzzles that are fun to solve. It looks and sounds brilliant too. The boss battles are a little on the weak side however, but they don't take the shine off what is otherwise a thoroughly enjoyable and very sweet exploration game."

Slant Magazine - 80 out of 100 - "Song of the Deep is uninspired only when it comes to its boss encounters, which end up being repetitive gauntlets of angry anglerfish enemies. Everywhere else, the game overflows with detail and creativity."

Twinfinite - 70 out of 100 - "It’s a beautiful, lonely world and the Ghibli-like aesthetic works incredibly well in its favor. However, some control issues and harsh random difficulty spikes hurt it by slowing down the experience."

IGN Spain - 70 out of 100 - "A very beautiful game with an interesting story, but it doesn't take risks on the gameplay."

Game Informer - 70 out of 100 - "Song of the Deep’s combat and beautiful presentation, showing cutscenes as colorful storybook illustrations accompanied by narration from an Irish-accented speaker, push the game a fair distance above its failings and make it a journey worth taking for anyone who enjoys Metroid-inspired games or action/adventure games with interesting stories."

Destructoid - 70 out of 100 - "Could use a bit more polish. With more development time in the form of a sequel (possibly using another mythos and setting), it could be something really special. For now what we've got is absolutely still worth playing."

Polygon - 70 out of 100 - "At around six hours long, Song of the Deep doesn't have enough time to become a disaster, and there are redeeming aspects of it. The character, the voiceover, the presentation are all a change of pace from the video game status quo, and the sense of discovery the first half offers is welcome."

Song Of The Deep releases on July 12th for PC, PlayStation 4, & Xbox One. Physical copies are available exclusively at GameStop locations.
