Hideki Kamiya, founder of developer PlatinumGames, has teased a sequel of Bayonetta in response to a fan asking a lore question about the series.
Bayonetta 2 released in 2014 exclusively for the Nintendo Wii U after the original debuted for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 back in 2010, coming later to Wii U in 2014 and PC in 2017. Would Bayonetta 3 be a Switch exclusive?
The exclusivity of Bayonetta 2 for Nintendo's troubled Wii U console is considered a major factor in limiting the game's performance in sales, despite being received well by fans and critics. Nintendo itself has gone on to admit the Wii U suffered terribly from being 'little different' from the Wii in most people's eyes.
Bayonetta 3 is not officially in development and Hideki Kamiya's tweet is not a confirmation of the game existing, only that the fan's question would likely be answered if a third game was released. PlatinumGames most recent release was Nier: Automata for Square Enix on PC and PlayStation 4. Their Scalebound project for PC and Xbox One to be published by Microsoft Studios was cancelled.
