Logan: Stephen Merchant's Character Revealed
While there’s been a steady flow of news and images from Hugh Jackman’s own social media presence regarding his final foray of as Wolverine in Logan, director James Mangold is fast going to take his place if his photographic skills are anything to go by.
Take a look at a new image posted by Mangold via Twitter of Stephen Merchant as he appears in the movie. The image all but confirms that he’ll be playing the mutant known as Caliban, last seen in X-Men: Apocalypse (albeit not by Merchant, he was instead played by Tómas Lemarquis).
Then there's this image posted by Merchant himself via his instagram page (you see, they're all at it!)
For those not in the know, Caliban first appeared in the comics in 1981. Over the years, he has been affiliated with the X-Men, X-Force, and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (among other factions). His primary mutant ability is sensing and tracking others of his kind. He is also capable of channelling the emotions of people around him to enhance his strength. Which considering another image that hinted at the fate of mutants in the world of Logan, makes his particular mutant finding skills much sort after.
Perhaps he’ll become a much valued ally to Wolverine and Charles Xavier now that mutants are on the endangered list.
There’s only five months to go until Logan hits cinemas and, while these teasers are doing a grand job of laying out the tone of the new film, you get the impression that once we see the first trailer, everything will become much clearer.
