Evil Genius 2 Announced As Full Sequel

Rebellion has just made the announcement for the long-awaited sequel Evil Genius 2, to the original base building and minion training game from 2004.

This isn't a remaster of the original Evil Genius but a full fledged sequel with all-new and hopefully zany blueprints for world domination. The original creator - Elixir Studios - sadly closed in 2005 but Rebellion nabbed the IP in 2006.

"Ever since Evil Genius came under the Rebellion roof, we’ve always believed that Elixir’s beloved real-time, lair-management and world-domination simulation deserved a follow-up. We’d like to make this super-duper clear – this isn’t a remaster. Evil Genius 2 will be a fully-fledged sequel and it won’t be free-to-play. Our focus currently is on a PC release, but as ever we’ll look at other platforms and see what fits and what doesn’t," said Rebellion in a statement.

Development is at a very early stage warns Rebellion as it only started in spring this year with their in-house engine Asura being retooled for the real-time strategy management game. It will take more time for the kinks to be worked out before Rebellion can fully ramp up production. Rebellion had planned on running a crowd-funding campaign for Evil Genius' return but other commitments got in the way, and they decided it "wasn’t fair to ask fans to fund a new game if we didn’t need them to," referring the studio's success with Sniper Elite and other IPs.

Right now Evil Genius is available in the Steam Summer Sale with 75% off @ £1.74 in the UK.

Evil Genius 2 is in development for PC with no release window announced. Additional platforms could be considered later.
