Kate Beckinsale's vampire warrior Selene is back in the fifth instalment of the Underworld franchise, Blood Wars.
If you’re expecting any major updates to the basic formula, then you may be looking in the wrong place. Once again, the war between the werewolf Lycans and Selene's fellow vamps is bloodier than ever (hence the title). The Lycans have a new leader, Marius (Tobias Menzies), who is driving them to even stronger attacks and if that wasn't enough, Selene gets stake in the back from within the vampire ranks.
To fight on these two fronts, Selene will need the help of David (Theo James) where the pair will make a pilgrimage to an ice wall that’s eerily like some sort of throne based games series on HBO but, lucky for Selene, she learns that violence isn’t the way and that she should embrace peace…nah, she basically learns how to kill in new and very cinematic ways.
With Anna Foerster directing, Underworld: Blood Wars is out on January 13th in the UK and January 6th in the USA.
