Demian Bichir to Star in Conjuring spin-off The Nun
Oscar nominated actor Demian Bichir will star in The Nun, the latest thriller from New Line’s horror universe based on characters from James Wan’s The Conjuring movies.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, It’ll be the second movie to be spun out from The Conjuring after Annabelle. A sequel to the latter, Annabelle: Creation, is set to open Aug. 11. That movie could propel the franchise — which has grossed over $897 million so far with just three low- to moderately budgeted films — past a billion dollars.
Directed by Corin Hardy, The Nun will focus on the breakout demon nun character from The Conjuring 2 – who was added late in production to the film and helped in gross $320 million from a $40 million budget.
Bichir, who was nominated for the 2011 movie, A Better Life, will play a priest named Father Burke who is dispatched by Rome to investigate the mysterious death of a nun.
The power of Christ compels The Nun towards a July 13, 2018, release.
