Ubisoft is taking the Anno series back to its historic roots with Anno 1800 to the industrialist days of the 19th century, where great empires ascended as others fell.
Thankfully all that geopolitics makes for some sweet trading opportunities in Anno 1800. Unlike the more recent Anno games that looked to the future, Anno 1800 seems to revisit hostilities between fledgling colonies as they vie for resources.
"Anno 1800 brings players to the dawn of the industrial age, a time of industrialisation, diplomacy and discovery. Players will have the chance to prove their skills as a ruler, as they create huge metropolises, plan efficient logistic networks, explore and settle new lands and dominate their opponents by diplomacy, trade or warfare."
What details have been made public include a story campaign, a customisable sandbox mode and multiplayer. Looks like the space stations and lunar colonies have been traded in for steam engines, bustling harbours and cutthroat diplomacy.
Anno 1800 releases on PC in Winter 2018.
