HTC Vive's Launch Stock 'Sold Out In Under 10 Minutes', Price Not A Barrier
The launch day stock for HTC Vive, which embraces Valve's own SteamVR, has sold out its entire inventory in less than 10 minutes. Despite a higher price tag than the Oculus Rift, the virtual reality headgear from HTC has sold like hotcakes.
Gamers and tech geeks feeling the hunger for VR have demolished the pre-order allocations for the initial launch day stock of the Vive with HTC's Shen Ye revealing they had over 15,000 pre-orders placed in under 10 minutes. That meant the units were processed and assigned between 15 and 20 minutes. Great news for those who got in early because your VR experience arrives April 5th.

For those who missed the window for April, more HTC Vive hardware will be shipped out in May according to new pre-orders. The high price point of £689 (which doesn't include shipping) gives you the headset, controllers and some Lighthouse sensors for motion tracking. While many will be hesitant to shell out that kind of money at this stage, HTC does have a significant tech advantage with the Vive as it features a forward facing camera that lets users see what's in front of them without removing the headgear.
Shen Ye also posted pictures showing the 'evolution' of the HTC Vive over the years.
