The Reviews Are In For Dark Souls III

Following the vast success of Bloodborne in 2015, From Software is now ready to not only go back to the Dark Souls series, but to complete it as well in the form of Dark Souls III. It's the latest game that will have players engaging in sword and sorcery combat against a variety of the toughest opponents found in video games.

Reviewers have already gotten their hands on the title (as well as a few common gamers with a now-known workaround) and have submitted their thoughts. The PlayStation 4 version of the game currently has a Metascore of 90 out of 100 based on 25 critical reviews. To compare, Bloodborne ended up receiving a 92 out of 100 Metascore based on 100 critics. Here's what the critics are saying about Dark Souls III...

Meristation - 100 out of 100 - "Dark Souls III is Hidetaka Miyazaki's final Masterpiece. It evolves the basics and mechanics of the Souls saga until it reaches pure perfection and offers brilliant level design, more variety of enemies, deep character customization, and some of the most epic boss battles we've seen in the last 7 years of the Souls saga."

IGN - 95 out of 100 - "If Dark Souls 3 truly is the last in the series as we know it, then it’s a worthy send-off. Weapon arts allow stylish and versatile new moves without tarnishing the purity of the combat system. Lothric’s awe-inspiring locations provide visually stunning arenas for rigorous exploration and fierce face-offs with hosts of deadly enemies and even deadlier bosses."

Game Informer - 93 out of 100 - "Dark Souls III successfully replicates the winning formula of the Souls series, a wondrous combination of majestic boss battles, incredible layered environments full of secrets, and precise combat that can make other action RPGs difficult to play once you’ve mastered the art."

Power Unlimited - 90 out of 100 - "Not as surprising as Demon’s Souls, not as timeless as Dark Souls, not as consistent as Dark Souls 2 and not as focused as Bloodborne. But still, Dark Souls 3 is a dyed in the wool Souls game. A gorgeously crafted culmination of design, fantasy and interactivity. And that’s what counts."

Easy Allies - 90 out of 100 - "Few companies can craft a world so completely enthraling. Whether you've played every entry, started with Bloodborne, or are brand new, this is a game you should absolutely make time for."

XGN - 85 out of 100 - "Comprehensive, challenging and immense, the game does its best to impress with every aspect. Being true to the series, however, the game does have the usual technical issues."

PlayStation LifeStyle - 85 out of 100 - "While enemy AI is laughably dumb, those same enemies can take you down in no time flat. This is a game that forces you to learn its intricacies and quirks, and use them all to your advantage. Sporting a wonderful environment full of color, suffering, death, and a small amount of hope, fans can expect to sink several dozen, if not hundreds, of hours into the game, if they haven’t already."

Attack Of The Fanboy - 80 out of 100 - "Dark Souls 3 is exactly what fans want, more of the same. There are new elements to be sure, but overall the game is the same great action RPG formula as the previous games. Unfortunately this also means some pieces that should have been updated weren't."

Polygon - 70 out of 100 - "In so many important ways — its world design, its pacing, the technology powering it — Dark Souls 3 falls short of the mark. Do you play for the joy and stress of exploring dangerous, intricately crafted places full of hidden elements and endless side paths? Then I suspect you'll join me in being a little let down with the direction this sequel has gone in."
