John Wick Prequel Show Now Has A Name

For a long time we’ve known that a John Wick TV Series is in the works thanks to director/writer Chad Stahelski but details have been a little thin on the ground.

Today that changes as now we know what it will be called, what the focus will be, and whether Keanu Reeves John Wick will appear.

According to Birth. Movies. Death, The TV series, now known as The Continental, will according to Stahelski, focus on the chain of worldwide hotels that form the backbone of John Wick’s trade.

Widening the character scope is something Stahelski is very excited about: “I like telling stories from my one character’s perspective,” Stahelski said. “Once you put that aside with the TV show, [you can] expand to all the different characters and follow them throughout their journey. You can be with the consigliere, concierge, the sommelier — you can be with all these different characters and walk through the world in different aspects; ones that I’m a little limited [from exploring] by staying with my lead guy.”

The idea makes sense. If you can’t get your lead, then take a macro look at the world he inhabits that will both add to and expand his mystique.

While on the subject of Wick himself, Stahelski added: “I think [Keanu Reeves] would make an appearance,” Stahelski said. “I think that’s part of his thing, [But the series] isn’t centered around John Wick.”Stahelski would be the showrunner for the series with the writing and directing duties falling to others, with Stahelski occasionally dropping into direct the action (he sites Game of Thrones’ Battle of the Bastards as a touchstone for what TV can bring to the action genre).

Here’s hoping we get some more details soon.
