Speaking to Collider at the world premiere of Meadowland at the Tribeca Film Festival Olivia Wilde confirmed Tron 3 - rumoured to be called Tron Ascension - will shoot in Vancouver in October.

“You know, I’ve heard the same," she said. "I think there’s a lot of people really excited to make it happen within Disney and in the world, and we’ve been dreaming of making it since we finished Legacy so I would be thrilled.”

While there have been plans to return to Tron ever since Tron Legacy took over $400 million worldwide in 2010, she stressed that the delay was down to finding the right story to tell and that she has read a script: “…There’s never been a time where we wanted to go and then schedules got in the way. It’s only been like, ‘That’s not the right story.’ So, in the past year, the right story kind of came together and we felt, ‘Oh, this actually – this might be the right one to tell.’”

At the end of Legacy, Sam and Quorra, a program, leave The Gird and wind up in the real world, so when asked what she’s most interested about returning to this universe, it’s this concept of artificial intelligence in the real world: “I’m fascinated by all discussions of AI, and especially now today and now with virtual reality becoming something that’s like a personal device, I think it’s the time to tell this story.”
