Deadpool Director Tim Miller to Direct Terminator Reboot
He’ll be back. James Cameron will retain the rights to the Terminator franchise in 2019 and is in talks with Deadpool director Tim Miller to helm a reboot of the 1984 original.
According to Deadline, talks are at an early stage with the rights set to revert back to the creator of the franchise 35 years after he let them go in order to retain final cut on the original movie. Cameron hasn’t been involved in the franchise since Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
Following that film, the franchise has received a television series and three additional movies, including Terminator Genisys, which released in 2015 to lukewarm reception from critics.
After co-financing the Alan Taylor-directed Genisys, Skydance Media CEO David Ellison is investing in "an exploratory effort that includes engaging some top-flight science fiction authors to find the movie creatively."
Last year, the follow up to Terminator Genisys was removed from Paramount’s release schedule, which was to be released this May.
