Rian Johnson Comments On Directing Star Wars: Episode IX
Rian Johnson has comment on the chance of him replacing Colin Trevorrow as director of Star Wars: Episode IX.
According to IGN, during a conference in Japan, Johnson revealed the plan was never for him to direct both The Last Jedi and Episode IX, and so he currently doesn't "know what’s going to happen with" the next Star Wars movie following Colin Trevorrow's departure.
“For me, I was entirely focused on Episode VIII and having this experience and now I’m just thinking of putting the movie out there and seeing how audiences respond to it," Johnson said. "So no, I'm not really thinking about that now."
Although he hasn’t ruled out directing the next episode, he did say he was looking forward to watching the film as ‘an audience member again’.
“Whoever does it, I’m going to be really excited to be an audience member again," Johnson said. "And to sit down and see what the next filmmaker has to show us and where this story ends up going.”
Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens in theatres on December 15.
