Alien Covenant: Michael Fassbender Promises 'Scary' Epic
What is it today with people declaring things scarier than their predecessors? First James Earl Jones declares that Darth Vader will be twice as Darth as before and now Michael Fassbender has declared that Alien: Covenant will also up the scares too.
Speaking to Collider, the Shame actor said that the film would have a similar scope to Prometheus aka Failen but would also up the boo factor too:
“This Alien is going to be… I’m very excited to see it and everybody in the film was saying this is a film that we all want to see. It’s much scarier than Prometheus but it’s got the same sort of scope of Prometheus. It’s kind of got more of the sort of thriller, imminent disaster feel that Alien had, so it’s kind of a beautiful meeting of both of those films. I’m really excited to see it, I think it’s gonna be super scary number one and then again with the massive scope of Prometheus… Once it starts and the ball starts rolling, it doesn’t let up. It’s really gonna bring chills to the cinema.”
Which sounds like all the things all at once. Here’s hoping the film retains some of Alien’s beautiful simplicity and its otherworldly quality too. However, with its mandated summer release slot, it’s unlikely that we’ll see a haunted house style Alien movie again. And that’s part of the problem, the Alien franchise is so ubiquitous that it’s hard to make the Xenomorph scary again – regardless of how glossy the production is.
We’ll find out for sure when Alien: Covenant opens on August 4, 2017.
