Star Control: Origins Announced
Stardock Games has begun the tentative steps for mankind into the great space opera of the galaxy with Star Control: Origins, a prequel to the original series.
The year is 2086 and humanity is finally ready to join the big boys in space and we captain the first major starship prototype following the formation of Star Control in response to an alien distress call from Triton. I guess our first venture idea as a new space-faring species was offering interstellar breakdown recovery?
"We Earthlings are the newcomers to the galactic scene," said Brad Wardell, Executive Producer. "The dozen plus space-faring species have been hatching their schemes since before we got out of trees. Now, suddenly, they have to deal with those meddling apes from Sol 3 who threaten to upset the plot."
Wardell's Stardock Games gained the rights to the original Star Control 1/2/3 from Atari and is now going full steam with a new studio solely for the franchise in Towson Maryland. Stardock is offering Founders and Founders Lifetime editions as pre-orders on the official Star Control website.
"Star Control is ultimately about us Earthlings exploring the galaxy, finding and talking to strange alien civilizations, and hopefully living to tell the tale," said Wardell. "We are hopeful those who remember the original trilogy will like the direction we’re taking here while at the same time introducing a whole new generation to the awesomeness of a game that combined action, adventure, and roleplaying in a sci-fi game simultaneously."
Star Control: Origins is in development for PC and consoles, with PC expected to arrive in 2017. Early Access is planned for those who pre-order the Founders Edition.
