Plans to adapt Stephen King's novel The Stand have been under way at Warner Bros. since 2011, and writer/director Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) had stated that the 1000 page novel would be split into four feature films. However, Warner Bros. may have decided to go down a different route.

According to a breaking news report from The Wrap, the movie will have a "star-studded" 8 episode miniseries that acts as a prelude. While it's not confirmed that the miniseries is happening, it would appear that it would take the place of the three planned sequels to the movie. Then again, perhaps Warner Bros. will be throwing a miniseries and four movies our way.

The Stand is set in a post-apocalyptic USA, where a man-made virus has wiped out 99% of the population. The surviving 1% rally behind one of two figures: Randall Flagg, a powerful and malevolent sorcerer; and Mother Abigail, a 106 year-old woman. Shockingly, these two groups do not get along very well. Josh Boone has also stated that he would like Christian Bale (Knight of Cups) for the part of Randall Flagg, and Matthew McConaughey (Interstellar) for Stuart Redman, a main character and follower of Mother Abigail.

The Stand is currently still in pre-production, with no release date given at this time.
