Highlander Reboot to Explore the World of the Immortals

There can only be one…well, several in fact. And now, there are so many, they’re going back around and starting again with a reboot of the Highlander franchise that promises to show us a ‘world’ of immortals.

Speaking to EW, the latest director to have a crack at bring the McCloud clan back to the big screen, John Wick’s Chad Stahleski, revealed that we won’t be heading back to the planet Zeist, when it comes to explaining the origins of the immortals.

"When I came on, the property had already been developed for a couple of years and, as things happen in Hollywood, yeah, there was aliens, meteors, spaceships, uh, DNA mutations, terrorists. I mean, they’d tried to drag every plot into the Immortal world. My personal opinion, I don’t want to see any of that. I’m not interested. I have seen other movies like that. I haven’t seen the Immortal world.

“What, you met four Immortals on the first movie?  I think I can introduce you to an entire world of Immortals. Imagine the great characters you could have. I mean, it speaks for itself. So, that’s the plan: to stay as true as we can to the original mythology, and just expand the world, and have fun within the world — without bringing in interstellar travel!”

Apart from being music to the ears of fans of the original film, the refuse to entertain any extra-terrestrial nonsense seems to be a ploy for a new audience too.

Here’s hoping we get something unique and respectful to the original film when the Highlander reboot hits our screens.
