As hinted at during the events of X-Men: Apocalypse, the phoenix is rising!

And now, the next instalment of the X-Men franchise has a director and a potential actor in place for the main villain too.

According to Den of Geek, the movie, dubbed X-Men: Dark Phoenix, the movie will be brought to the big screen by long-time X-Men scribe Simon Kinberg who will be making his directorial debut with the project.

And in other good news, other franchise veterans whose contracts were up for renewal have signed on for the project. So get ready to once again see Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Nicholas Hoult playing Mystique, Professor X, Magneto and Beast respectively. They’ll be joined by Apocalypse stars Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey (who will undoubtedly form the focus of the Phoenix saga) , Tye Sheridan as Cyclops and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler.

And, if that wasn’t enough good news, Jessica Chastain is top of the wishlist to play the villain in the new movie. The role is set to be Shi’ar Empress Lilandra Neamani, and we’d expect her deal to be locked down quickly if it’s going to happen. That’s because X-Men: Dark Phoenix is set to start filming in Montreal before the end of the month, with a November 2018 release date earmarked for the movie.
