When is a standalone movie not a standalone movie? When its three separate Marvel movies featuring Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk.

It’s been well documented that progress on a standalone Hulk movie has been halted Universal who currently own the rights to make a Hulk movie. In fact, in a new interview with Yahoo, the Oscar-nominated actor has confirmed that that’s still a problem, and that whilst “I’d love to do a Hulk movie”, the truth remains “Marvel doesn’t even hold the rights to it. So it’s not on the horizon”.

However, Ruffalo is reprising the role next in Thor: Ragnarok, alongside Chris Hemsworth. And then there’s the pair of Avengers: Infinity War movies to come.

“We have worked a really interesting arc into Thor 3, Avengers 3 and 4 for Banner that I think will – when it’s all added up – will feel like a Hulk movie, a standalone movie”, Ruffalo revealed.

On the subject of Thor 3 and Marvel’s recent appointment of Taika Waititi as director on the new movie, Ruffalo was full of praise for the studios inventive, inspired choices.

“That’s a surprise and it fits part of this Marvel doing the unexpected, casting the unexpected, and now bringing in the unexpected for writer and director. I’m really interested in where that’s going. They’re writing the script now. I am thinking about it, I’m doing script meetings and stuff so we’re starting to prep it”.

Thor: Ragnarok starts shooting in the next few months, ahead of its release in November 2017.
