Game of Thrones Season 7 Concludes with Longest Running Episode
The finale of Season 7 of Game of Thrones will feature some of the longest episodes of the show so far. Despite the later than usual air date of July and the truncated run (there will only be seven episodes rather than the usual ten), this season of Game of Thrones is already promising some big moments.
There’s Khaleesi returning to Westeros and the ever-closer White Walkers just beyond the wall, so, to cram all that in, the sixth episode running will be 71 minutes, and the season-ending seventh episode will go to 81 minutes, according to Watchers on the Wall, which obtained the numbers through an HBO schedule search.
For those of you keeping score, that puts both episodes ahead of the currently longest-running Game of Thrones episode, The Winds of Winter, by 3 minutes and 13 minutes respectively. The average Game of Thrones episode, throughout the run of series during its first six seasons, has been about 55 minutes – meaning that the added time for season 7 will add up to almost an entire extra episode altogether.
Game of Thrones returns for its seventh season July 16, 2017, on HBO and its streaming platforms. The season will run through August 27.
