Billy Magnussen Joins Cast of Live-Action Aladdin Remake
Disney’s live-action Aladdin remake has been filling out nicely with Billy Magnussen the latest name to join the cast, in an original role for the movie.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Magnussen, who has appeared in the likes of Black Mirror and Into the Wood, has been cast as Prince Anders – who will almost certainly be a suitor for the affections of Princess Jasmine, who will be played by Naomi Scott.
Magnussen has previously princely experience, having appeared as Rapunzel's prince in Disney's 2014 musical adaptation Into the Woods.
In August Nasim Pedrad was cast as Mara, an original character who appears to be a "comic relief" handmaiden to Naomi Scott's Princess Jasmine, as well as Numan Acar's casting as Hakim, head of Agrabah's guards and right-hand man to Jafar (Marwan Kenzari). They’ll be joined by Mena Massoud and Will Smith in the lead roles of Aladdin and the Genie, respectively.
Filming for the live-action remake has already begun and is expected to last until January of next year; the finished film is expected to arrive in theatres at some point in 2018.
