Scalebound Release Cancelled

Microsoft has confirmed - as they remove all official media content of it - that PlatinumGames' action RPG Scalebound has been cancelled for Xbox One and PC.

It was scheduled for launch this year where players would take the role of Drew, accompanied by his dragon buddy Thuban. You could command the dragon to help during fights with PlatinumGames focusing more on visuals and role-playing than their usual flair of over-the-top action.

"After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for Scalebound. We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves and other great experiences," Microsoft confirms in statement.

The workload of the project apparently led to staff taking time away from Scalebound's development which led to it falling further behind in schedule. The game was being built with Unreal Engine 4. Bayonetta and Devil May Cry director Hideki Kamiya called it a 'passion project' born from many other cancelled prototypes throughout the years.

Scalebound was in development for Xbox One and PC but is now likely to never see a release.
