Chris Miller and Phil Lord Have Left Star Wars Han Solo Spin-Off

Kathleen Kennedy shot first…Directors of the untitled Han Solo stand-alone film Chris Miller and Phil Lord have left the project due to creative differences.

What’s shocking about this isn’t that the old adage of creative differences has reared it’s cliched head again, it’s that all seemed to be going well with the movie. The directing duo had recently featured in a charity video offering fans a chance to visit the set, and that the production is five months in already, with a large percentage already in the can.

As per an official statement from Lucasfilm. "Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are talented filmmakers who have assembled an incredible cast and crew, but it’s become clear that we had different creative visions on this film, and we’ve decided to part ways. A new director will be announced soon," says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.

"Unfortunately, our vision and process weren’t aligned with our partners on this project. We normally aren’t fans of the phrase ‘creative differences’ but for once this cliché is true," add the directors. "We are really proud of the amazing and world-class work of our cast and crew."

Variety have done some digging and have reported that a ‘clash of cultures’ became so untenable that the 22 Jump Street pair were fired. While there’s no new filmmaker in place – an early contender is Apollo 13 helmer Ron Howard, which feels very wrong – filming is ongoing with Alden Ehrenreich playing the younger Solo alongside Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Donald Glover and Thandie Newton with the release date still in place for May 2018.
