Peter Capaldi has confirmed that he will leave Doctor Who during this year’s Christmas special.

Speaking on BBC Radio 2’s An Evening in With Peter Capaldi, the Twelfth Doctor confirmed that he would be departing the TARDIS after Series 10 which is due to air from Saturday 15th April.

His decision to leave the show coincides with the departure of head writer Steven Moffat, who is also leaving after the festive episode. Capaldi became the Doctor, the twelfth actor to play the role, in 2013.

He said: “One of the greatest privileges of being Doctor Who is to see the world at its best,” he said during an interview on BBC Radio 2. “From our brilliant crew and creative team working for the best broadcaster on the planet, to the viewers and fans whose endless creativity, generosity and inclusiveness points to a brighter future ahead. I can’t thank everyone enough. It’s been cosmic.”

Doctor Who Series 10 will air from April 15th.
