As the first 'official' conference at E3, the developer of The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and Doom followed EA's Play event, here's what you missed from the company's second ever showcase!

- After the pre-pre show and the pre show finished up, we were greeted by an old PC boot-up which launched into a gritty trailer for Quake Champions!

- Studio Director of id Software and co-designer of the original game, Tim Willits, announces that Quake is indeed back. The game originally set the benchmark for multiplayer shooters and id Software understands this; the game will run with unlocked frame-rates and will feature a diverse cast of warriors with different attributes and unique abilities.

- It’s built for players new and old but also designed for world class eSports gameplay. Bethesda will be supporting tournaments and leagues outside of Quake Con as part of the launch plans, but more details will be revealed in the coming months.

- Bethesda has been dipping into virtual reality with Bethesda VR, taking time back to 2012 where DOOM 3 was shown off as one of the first public examples of virtual reality. Now, if you’re at the show, you’ll be able to have a crack at DOOM and Fallout 4 in VR. Oh, also, Fallout 4 will be coming to HTC Vive in 2017!

- Dishonoured 2 is utilising a custom-made engine known as the Void Engine which is supposed to make the game look like “a painting in motion.” On the topic of world-building, the developer spoke at length at how they bring their games to life. These environments emulate reality; how do the people get to work, or where do they eat their lunch? The history of the streets is shown in flood marks and poster scraps from years before the protagonist arrived, fleshing the world out.

- As we already know, you’ll be able to play as Emily or Corvo, the former with her own unique abilities including Mesmerise (making enemies unaware of her presence), Domino (forcing enemies to share their fates), and Shadow Walk (turning Emily herself into a shadow on the ground to assassinate enemies). Each ability has its own skill tree which can be pursued to adapt the game to your own style.

- In the gameplay shown off, we saw Emily manoeuvring through a mission in the game. As before, it’s possible to complete each unscripted mission in a variety of ways. Depending on who comes out on top, the fate of the game can be altered.

- This gameplay offered a visual demonstration of these new abilities, the improved A.I, the use of vertical space and rooftops, and a weather system which effects visibility.

- A second piece of gameplay was also shown, revealing the use of time travel elements using a special timepiece: hop between states of time to take down enemies and solve puzzles.

- Dishonored 2 has been confirmed for a November 11 release and a very limited Collector’s Edition. If you decide to pre-order any version of the game, you’ll also receive a free copy of the Dishonored: Definitive Edition.

So, what did you think about Bethesda’s conference? Did it have the same punch as last year? It was certainly well-deserved for Bethesda to take a moment at the end of the show to celebrate those who put their lives into the games we play and, for that, we're grateful!
