If and when Gremlins 3 happens, star of the original films, Zach Galligan has confirmed that the potential third movie will not be a remake or a reboot.

Speaking at a series of Q&A’s at the annual seasonal screenings of both films at London’s magnificent Prince Charles Cinema (serious, seek it out), Galligan reaffirmed that Chris Colombus won’t be taking the J.J. Abrams Star Trek route and instead, the film will follow the model of success laid down by Jurassic World.

"It's not going to be a reboot. It will not be a remake in any way, shape or form", Galligan said. He added that "Chris Columbus has come out and said that the first film is very near and dear to his heart and as long as he is alive it will never be remade".

Instead, the plan is to do "something along the lines of Jurassic World, where it will be 30 years later". That involves references to the original Gremlins film, too. Some of the original characters will return as well, although Galligan is unsure at the moment if he's set to be involved at this stage.
