To survive film development hell, you must become film development hell – yes when the going gets tough for John Rambo, the tough get themselves a TV development deal instead.

Deadline reports that Fox has closed a development deal with Sylvester Stallone to executive produce Rambo: New Blood – the TV series continuation of the Rambo series.

The show would focus on John Rambo and his son J.R., (please let his name be John Rambo Rambo) described as an ex-Navy SEAL for the series, and will be written by Die Hard and The Fugitive screenwriter Jeb Stuart. Though unconfirmed, Stallone is expected to reprise his role as John Rambo.

Entertainment One and Avi Lerner’s Millennium Films will produce the series, which has put the previously-reported fifth film, Rambo: Last Blood, on hold.

Development on the television adaptation of Rambo began back in 2013, though reports circulated at the time that Stallone would not be involved. This also marks the second foray of the character on the small screen as an animated series, Rambo: The Force of Freedom, aired briefly in 1986.
