Godzilla: King of the Monsters Synopsis Confirms Multiple Kaiju

Let’s get ready to rumble! Monster throw-down Godzilla 2 looks set to keep the promise of the end-of-credits scene of Kong: Skull Island and unleash multiple monsters.

According to the official synopsis (via Screen Rant), released to mark the start of production on the sequel, three legendary kaiju will all be featured in the upcoming Godzilla 2 aka Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

The official synopsis reads: “The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.”

It certainly seems like a change of direction and tone of Gareth Edwards Godzilla, which used the monster very sparingly. This time around, the director will be Michael Dougherty (Krampus) who’ll be working on a script by himself and his frequent writing partner Zach Shields. This multiple monster pile up will undoubtable pave the way for the next chapter in the monsterverse, 2020’s Godzilla Vs. Kong, which will be tackled by Blair Witch director Adam Wingard. The fact that they both have a background in horror is worth noting.

Warner Bros. has also confirmed the full cast for Godzilla 2, which was already known to include Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things), Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights), Vera Farmiga (The Conjuring), Sally Hawkins (Blue Jasmine), Ken Watanabe (Transformers: The Last Knight), Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), Bradley Whitford (Get Out), Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton), Zhang Ziyi (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) and Aisha Hinds (Star Trek: Into Darkness). Most of the filming will be done in Atlanta.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters is set for release on Mar 22, 2019.
