Between Love and Hate: New By the Sea Featurette

It’s a union fraught with squabbles, drama, making up and the inevitable clashes but for real-life couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Pitt, the making of By the Sea was a far more creative, collaborative effort than their on-screen woes suggest.

In this featurette, writer/director Jolie Pitt gives us a sneak peek at her and husband Brad Pitt’s working practices in this throwback to 1970s films set in the era itself. The best bit? Where Jolie Pitt describes how you can both love and hate someone at the same time while Brad Pitt sits guffawing next to her.

By The Sea finds Vanessa (Jolie Pitt), a former dancer, and her husband Roland, an American writer, travelling the French countryside together. They seem to be growing apart, but when they linger in one quiet, seaside town they begin to draw close to some of its more vibrant inhabitants, such as a local bar/café-keeper and a hotel owner. Obviously there are issues to be worked out here, and from the looks of this, there will be tears, if not blood.

The film, which also features Mélanie Laurent, Melvil Poupaud and Niels Arestrup, will be out in the UK on December 11.
