Alongside the four-cylinder cars, Volvo also weighed in with six-cylinder variants using the same 240 bodyshell. The 264 saloon was launched at the same time, the 265 estate followed a year later. Both used the brand new 2664cc V6 engine developed with Peugeot and Renault; a smooth and mighty motor especially when in 140bhp fuel-injected form. This went up to 2849cc in 1981, which added an extra 14bhp. Flagship was the 264TE, a Bertone-built stretched limousine, complete with a telephone and a fridge. As ABBA used one, it must have been special!
