Reliant scored a major hit with the Scimitar GTE. It had been Reliant’s idea to ask Ogle’s Tom Karen to redesign the SE4 into a sporting estate, and when it subsequently appeared, the new car proved highly successful. As well as being good looking and usefully commodious, the 3-litre Ford V6 gave the GTE plenty of performance. The body style proved such a trendsetter that other manufacturers raced to produce their own versions, with Volvo’s P1800ES and Lancia’s Beta HPE being the most faithful homages. Despite that, values remain criminally low.
