Oculus Rift DK1

VR Display

The Oculus Rift DK1 was the first Developer Kit model of the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset. It was a backer reward for pledges of over $300 on Oculus’ Kickstarter page for the Oculus Rift in August 2012. In September of that year, you could pre-order the dev kit directly off their website. The Dev Kit was withdrawn from sale on March 12, 2014. This initial prototype version used a 7-inch screen, with a FOV of 90 degrees horizontal and 110 diagonal. The resolution was 1280x800 with a 16:10 aspect ratio. The weight of the headset was approximately 379 g (13.4 oz), and it did not include headphones. The entire source for the Rift DK1 was released to the public in September 2014, including the firmware, schematics, and mechanicals for the device. The firmware was released under a simplified BSD license, while the schematics and mechanicals were released under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License. The ‘DK1’ was succeeded by a version code-named ‘Crystal Cove’ as well as the Dev Kit 2 version.
