The final version of the Pagoda roadsters also turned out to be the best selling. With the engine bored out to 2.8 litres, even with the restrictions caused by new emission controls it offered more power and torque this time. Some of the benefits of this were lost due to the weight the car had gained. The suspension was also retuned a little in favour of ride comfort, which means the 280SL doesn’t have quite the same handling prowess as previous SLs. None of that has stopped it from becoming the favoured version of the range with buyers.
