Based on the 220 Ponton saloon but on a five-inch shorter floorpan, with much prettier bodywork distinguished by really long doors. Priced roughly 75% higher than a saloon when new, they sold in small numbers. The 220S had a 100bhp six-cylinder engine with twin Solex carburettors, and this was joined in 1958 by the 220SE, with the ‘E’ standing for fuel injection, a Bosch unit that added 15bhp – and even more to the car’s already high price. They remained in production a year longer than their saloon counterparts.
